How to Make Real Life Face Party Party Painting Designs

All that's really needed for a great face party, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned professional, is a little knowledge of face designs, and of course, and eye for color as well as an eye for proportions.

Some designs are more common than others, however, if you can overcome the common designs and learn the basic techniques, you can apply this knowledge to any other face painting design for your party.   Layers and details are very important in face painting, so reading materials or studying designs are really important to start.  We'll use a common design here to illustrate the build up of a correct design.  Let's do a 'Tiger Face' which everyone uses practically:

While using a broad sponge, paint a white area around the mouth.  This will be the whiskers later on after colour has been added.

Using a different sponge, paint yellow around chin, the cheeks and the eyes.

Orange is then applied all around the outer edges of the face, using a clean sponge.  The yellow and orange is then blended lightly, by stroking over the yellow gently, wiping the orange into it.  Blending is done until the proper 'tiger color' appears.

With a medium sized brush, white eyebrows are painted, using the natural eyebrow as a guide.  Points are made in the eyebrow by holding the brush at the end and stroking outwards.

Brush strokes then draw the white paint around the mouth down into 'whiskers', by lifting the brush as you pull it downwards through the paint that exists there already.  Flicking the brush up at the end gives a pointy look.

White stripes are then added by pulling the white into the orange, and tapering the ends.  A white strip is also done under each eye.

Black is used to add a line from under the nostrils to the upper lip, and both lips are then painted black. Black stripes are added all over using the technique for the white stripes in F above.  The eyes should be avoided and glitter gel or other fancy additions can be added.  'Dots' that resemble whisker roots do finish the job.

Of course, this is only an example and stores do carry instructions for other face party designs.  And remember, your imagination is the only limit as tigers can have many colors and many stripes.  Who says a tiger can't change its stripes, especially for Halloween parties and childrens birthday parties.  Changing the colors can add a dramatic new effect to an old standard, and many colours can and will complement each other and make a really great face painting effect.   To cut back on painting if it takes a long time, add costumes and props for the child or adult.  This adds to the effect without some of the work!  After all, it is imaginary and should be as much fun as possible while being as safe as possible.
