Face Party Time of Year!
Let's face it, Halloween is the time of year for your face party. Face painting also is know as 'cheek art' and has its roots in history that is hundreds of years old. And what better design to pick if you're a novice and looking for something simple and cost effective but that of a ghost. A ghost is very seasonal and associated with lore of past. Just load a brush with white paint and feather it all over. Use wavy strokes to complete a ghostly appearance, and then circle the eyes, nose and mouth with black if you'd like a more sinister and ghoulish appearance. Ghostly images can also be made 'sweeter' by adding candy corn into the paint in spots, or by making really red lips and cheeks. Glitter eyes make a flirtatious type of ghost.
Jack-o-lanterns are also a favorite for a face party at Halloween. A circle of orange paint all over the face starts the process, and after the orange is dried, black triangles (or any other color you like), make the eyes, nose and mouth. You can also add 'teeth' to the mouth with white paint. A green hat can be the stem if you'd like to take this one step further, and ribbons of any different color can swirl across the face to give it a 'pumpkin' wrinkled appearance.
For a black cat, simply swirl black paint all over the face, and then highlight with white whiskers, eyes, nose and mouth. Use a smaller brush for the highlights and whiskers, and use a fine hand, to bring them to a point.
Witches are also popular for Halloween and green paint swirled on works wonders here for that ghoulish appearance. Any combination of other colors can then be dabbed on, swirled on, and blackened out to give a ghastly witch look. No real rules exist with witches as they are figments of folklore (we hope).
No rules apply at all if you don't want them too as children especially are not picky and not expecting too much. They just want Halloween fun. Even adults get in the spirit and sometimes the worst 'disasters' are the most memorable. Create your own version of everything and for years to come others may very well 'ask' for your creations as they will be one of a kind truly.
If you really want to save money you can also make your own face paint. All you need are a few ingredients:
The cold cream and cornstarch is then blended together until the consistency is smooth but not runny. Make sure all lumps disappear. Add water bit by bit until it resembles paint. Put in one drop of chosen food colorings at a time until the color you want appears. Use just as with any other store bought face paint. You can also store this for a year or more in an airtight container.
It's simple really to use face paint and even make your own not just for every party but especially for the holidays such as Halloween!
