Make your party UNIQUE

Face Painting Livens up Halloween Parties

As anyone knows, face-painting parties are great fun for kids.  Children absolutely adore face painting and adults have been known to indulge as well.  The art of painting a face stems from centuries ago and especially during Halloween, face-painting parties are prolific.  Everything from cute little 'doll' looks for girls, to realistic ghoulish cuts and bruises can be 'painted' onto one's face, making the holiday that much more special.  Many long time favorites usually include a variety of animals: tigers, bears, dogs, cats, rodents, and monkeys.  But the fun doesn't stop there.  Butterflies are also popular as are fairy princesses, clowns, military-type faces, vampires, ghouls, goblins, and of course, monsters that resemble Frankenstein!

For Halloween and other holidays, one can easily host face party contests, with the amateurs (the party -goers) doing the painting themselves.  Non-toxic paints are available in many stores during Halloween, and kids and adults love becoming involved in their own painting.  Books on face painting can be purchased to assist in more professional designs, or one can design their own unique look and share it with others.

Of course, for adult parties, and for upper scale children's parties, professional face parties do abound, and everyone enjoys these.  Parties can also have a total theme and props can be used to enhance the theme.  After choosing a theme, the face paints can then be chosen to reflect it.

Children's parties are when most face painting occurs however, so care in choice of paints is needed.  Equipment and suggestions on types of paint are as follows:

  1. Choose paints specifically made to apply to the skin.  Safety tested paints are a must!
  2. Good quality brushes that don't irritate the skin should be chosen and the types of designs kept in mind.
  3. An assortment of soft sponges of hypoallergenic materials should complement the brushes.
  4. Water needs to be on hand for rinsing and dipping.
  5. Clean towels need to be on hand for spills!
  6. Soap needs to be on hand to remove the paints.  Although paints are water-based and easily removed, soap does speed up the process and reduces rubbing on the skin.
  7. Designs should be on hand as guides to reduce waste and frustration.
  8. Tables and chairs that are roomy and comfortable will give party goers a place to paint while they also relax.  Food and drink should be on separate tables away from the paints.
  9. Shawls, towels, or plastic shoulder wraps will keep paint on faces and off clothing.
  10. Hair ties will keep hair out of the face and away from the paint at all times.

As you can see, the list is simple but should be followed for maximum enjoyment of face painting parties.  Whether it's Halloween, Christmas, or birthdays, face parties for children and adults does enhance the celebrations!   You're never too young nor too old for face painting and never too young or too old to have fun with this type of art
